In 21st century, employees need different skills from those in the 20th century. They need to be equipped with skills to succeed in a competitive, complex, knowledge-based, information-age and technology driven economy and context. The required skills should be widely researched and identified and constantly updated and refined to reflect the changing world of 21st century. In the last decades, the appearance of knowledge, information, and innovation based service economy has changed the rules of the game compared to the industrial economy based on manufacturing.
In today economic changes, as a response, a paradigm shift in organizational and behavioral characteristics (such decentralized decision making, information sharing, cross-organizational networking, flexibility, etc) are needed by industries and firms in order to achieve increased productivity and innovation. This paradigm shift in Education, Learning and Training policies and processes is inevitable in order to have more innovative and creative employees to mitigate all the risks in current industry and business economy and to change the culture of reactiveness in organizations to a proactively initiating change culture in order to sustainability, increased productivity and innovation. Unfortunately, taking into consideration of all changes in business and economy and urgent need for more competent and skillful employees, teaching, learning and training processes has remained essentially unchanged compared to 20th century.
